The Golden Spiral - Cherrygrove Residents Association - Naas Co.Kildare
Cherrygrove Residents Association commissioned Mark O'Loughlin from Sanctuary Landscapes to design a feature for the general entrance to the estate.
Mark applied the Fibonnaci Ratio principal to the design. Also called The Golden Ration (Spiral) or The Phi Ratio, it is a naturally occurring ratio of 1:1.6. It is a mathematical ratio that seems to appear recurrently in beautiful things in nature as well as in other things that are seen as 'beautiful'.
Such spirals are seen in the shape of shells of snails and sea shells and in the arrangements of seeds on flowering plants too. The Golden Ratio is found in all living forms. Hundreds of proportions in the human body are in the Golden Ratio too, for example, the distances between the shoulder, elbow and tips of the fingers and the widths of teeth.
